Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start WORKING WITH YOU?
All prospective clients should begin by booking a strategy session. The booking process is easy and will take a few minutes, and there’s nothing else you need to do before your first session. If you find it helpful and are interested in ongoing coaching or a day-long intensive session, let me know and we will discuss the best way to proceed.
WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
After working full-time in both undergraduate admissions and independent school college counseling, I relocated and accepted a position as the Director of College Counseling at an independent school in the Washington, D.C. area. I decided to start my practice and it grew rapidly; after transitioning to a part-time schedule, I finally quit my day job for good after six years. Over the last decade, I have:
Scaled my “side hustle” to reach and sustain a consistent mid-six-figure income
Built a loyal team of employees and contractors, both in-person and remote
Achieved incredible levels of client satisfaction with over 90% of my client base coming from word-of-mouth referrals
Automated the majority of my processes and established streamlined workflows and systems
Established myself as a leading college admissions expert in national and local media outlets
Operated with integrity and ethics at the forefront of my practice
DO YOU HAVE A LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE OFFICE?
Absolutely! Once I incorporated the right processes into my life, I found that professional and personal fulfillment do not have to be mutually exclusive.
While achieving career success that has outpaced my wildest expectations, I have also:
Given birth to my children and navigated the demands of working motherhood
Celebrated my tenth wedding anniversary to a partner with a demanding career
Built a flexible lifestyle with frequent vacations and an active social life
Led multiple playgroups in my community and even served a two-year stint as “room mom”
Volunteered regularly for several organizations and achieved sustainer status with the Junior League of Washington
Moderated and hosted a popular in-person discussion group for successful “mom entrepreneurs” in my local area
I’m not going to promise that you can “have it all,” but you can have a lot with the right systems in place. I am much less stressed now than when I made $50-100k and was running myself in a million different directions.
WHY did you BEGIN coaching other educational consultants?
When I started my own independent educational consulting practice back in 2010, I knew plenty about college admissions but not one thing about running a business! As the years passed and I began to expand and scale, I started to identify as an entrepreneur first and and educator second.
I became genuinely energized and excited about the new innovations that I discovered along the way, and I developed a passion for sharing my knowledge with other IECs on an informal level. Colleagues began seeking me out on a word-of-mouth basis to ask if I would be willing to give them career advice and help them implement the same strategies that led to my own success and profitability. One thing led to another and Educational Advisory Group was born!
What does coaching entail?
I will help you solve problems and implement changes that will make a difference in your world immediately. You will not have to wait months or weeks to see an impact, and you will feel energized by your results. In the long term, I will help you set measurable goals, work with you to create an achievable plan to reach them, and hold you accountable along the way.
If you don’t need coaching, check out my templates for purchase. You can incorporate these templates using your own workflows to start saving time immediately.
WHY is coaching so expensive?
My high rates reflect the high value I provide to all of my clients, whether with students through consulting or with IECs through coaching. There’s a reason that I’m able to charge what I charge and maintain such a high referral rate: simply put, my clients feel that the value of the services I provide is worth the cost of working with me.
If a $1000 monthly fee results in increased monthly revenue of $5000, that $1000 was money well spent; coaching is an investment in your future earnings. If you are not satisfied with your own rates, part of our work together will involve making sure that the value you provide and the rates you charge are in line with one another. You can’t raise your prices without raising your value!
COULD EVERY IEC BENEFIT FROM Your COACHING SERVICES?
I do not believe in one-size-fits-all approaches; it’s important to find the right fit and I am not the right match for everyone. IECs grappling with one of the following issues will find tremendous value in my expertise:
Those trying to grow early-stage businesses
Those earning high incomes and running profitable businesses while working themselves to death
Those seeking to scale their existing businesses to generate increased profits
Those seeking to streamline operational processes through automation
Those struggling with the balance of parenthood and entrepreneurship
MY FRIEND OPERATES A THERAPY PRACTICE AS A SOLE PRACTITIONER and IS STRUGGLING WITH SOME OF THE ISSUES YOU MENTIONED. SHE COULD REALLY BENEFIT FROM WORKING WITH YOU. WOULD YOU CONSIDER HELPING HER?
I feel that a coach specializing in a specific industry will always be able to provide more in-depth and targeted advice to clients in that industry. I operate with a strict code of ethics and will only take on clients for whom I am absolutely certain I can provide maximum value. I would not be absolutely certain in this scenario, even if there are many similarities between our industries, and therefore will only work with independent educational consultants specializing in the college admissions process.
